I. Organizational Mandate
The Global ESG Leadership Organization (hereinafter referred to as "the Organization") is an international platform organization established to advance sustainable development practices. It recognizes that addressing global challenges — including climate change, social inequality, and governance failures — necessitates cross-sectoral collaboration among governments, business enterprises, civil society, and international organizations, as well as the exchange of evidence-based and practice-grounded solutions.
The international conferences convened by the Organization are guided by the overarching objective of advancing concrete and actionable social solutions, with a focus on ESG governance, sustainable development, social impact, and cross-sectoral partnerships. The Organization undertakes to provide a high-quality forum for practitioners, researchers, and policy advocates from diverse professional and institutional backgrounds.
II. Alignment with International Frameworks
The work of the Organization shall be conducted in conformity with the following international frameworks, which serve as the authoritative basis for the review of conference content and the application of governance standards:
- The United Nations ("UN") 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with particular reference to the principles of multilateral cooperation and governance accountability enshrined in SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
- The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, encompassing commitments to human rights, labour standards, environmental responsibility, and anti-corruption.
- The principles of human dignity, equality, and non-discrimination established under UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/217(III), which shall serve as the foundational standards of conduct for any activity convened by the Organization.
- The compliance requirements established under the Secretary-General's Bulletin ST/SGB/2002/9 concerning the use of the name, emblem, and official seal of the UN. The Organization undertakes to uphold these requirements and to protect the UN identification system from unauthorized use through institutionalized mechanisms.
III. Governance Principles
The present Code of Conduct is established so as to ensure that the following six core governance principles are duly upheld in any activity convened by the Organization:
Principle I: Participant Protection
The Organization undertakes to provide all participants with a safe, professional, and unimpeded environment for engagement, so as to ensure that every participant may access conference content on an equal and orderly basis, free from harassment, commercial pressure, or misinformation in any form.
Principle II: Identity Integrity
The Organization shall apply rigorous scrutiny to the declared identities, representative claims, and authorization assertions of all participants, with a view to preventing identity misrepresentation, fraudulent endorsements, or unauthorized representation from compromising the integrity of its proceedings.
Principle III: Compliance with International Organizational Nomenclature (UN & IGO Compliance)
The Organization attaches the utmost importance to the reputational integrity and identification systems of the UN and other intergovernmental organizations. The present Code clearly delineates the permissible scope for invoking international organizational names and establishes a zero-tolerance mechanism against any unauthorized citation, implication, or associative framing, with a view to preserving the authority and gravity of international organizational nomenclature.
Principle IV: Information Integrity and Professional Probity
The Organization shall require all participants to adhere to the basic standards of fact verification and professional expression in their questions, discussions, and external communications, so as to ensure that the knowledge exchange generated by its conferences maintains international credibility and that the Organization does not serve as a conduit for the dissemination of misleading information.
Principle V: Transparency and Accountability
All determinations of misconduct and the corresponding enforcement measures shall be grounded in clear and established bases. The enforcement decisions of the Organization are final and shall be documented in writing, with a view to safeguarding the overall order of its conferences and the legitimate interests of all participants.
Principle VI: Collective Responsibility ("Speak Up")
Every participant shares responsibility for upholding this Code and shall raise concerns about suspected misconduct through the designated channel set out in Section T, so as to enable the Organization to protect the integrity of its conferences and the wellbeing of all participants.
IV. Scope of Application
The present Code shall apply to all external conduct of participants before, during, and after any event, including conduct at physical venues, on online platforms, on social media, and in any public or private communications undertaken in connection with the event in question. Authorized representatives of the convening authority, moderators, and staff of the Organization shall retain sole authority for the interpretation and enforcement of the present Code.
V. Mechanism of Consent to the Present Code
By completing registration, completing admission procedures, joining the event online, or participating in the event in any form whatsoever, a participant shall be deemed to have read the present Code in its entirety, to have understood its contents, and to have unconditionally agreed to abide by all of its provisions.
THE CODE
A. Norms Governing the Use of UN and International Organizational Names
Policy Statement
The Organization recognizes that the names, emblems, and identification systems of the UN and other intergovernmental organizations are afforded strict protection under international legal frameworks and the internal policies of those organizations. Unauthorized citation of such names not only constitutes an infringement upon the identification rights and interests of the organizations concerned, but also creates materially misleading impressions within the international community regarding the nature of official partnership relationships, and may undermine public confidence in the credibility of the multilateral system.
The Organization proactively assumes responsibility for the protection of the UN identification system and regards this commitment as a concrete expression of its own international governance capacity. The present section is established so as to define clear compliance boundaries, to ensure that all external representations of activities conducted under the Organization's auspices conform to the relevant requirements of the UN, and to prevent, through institutionalized mechanisms, any form of unauthorized use of international organizational names.
Compliance Requirements
- No person or entity lacking formal written authorization from the UN or any international organization shall, in any form — including direct assertion, implication, visual association, or verbal framing — claim to have received the endorsement, accreditation, official designation, partnership status, or representative standing of the aforementioned organizations.
- Without the explicit written permission of the UN or the relevant international organization, no participant shall, in any external document, spoken statement, social media publication, or promotional material associated with this event, make use of the name, flag, emblem, official seal, institutional identifier, or any expression of the UN liable to engender in the public mind an impression of an official relationship.
- Ambiguous expressions such as "UN-aligned," "supported by the UN," "UN endorsed," "recognized by international organizations," "guided by the UN framework," and "aligned with the UN" — where not accompanied by verifiable formal authorization documentation — shall be treated as unauthorized citations, and all enforcement provisions of the present section shall apply accordingly.
- The Organization reserves the right to discontinue forthwith any act in violation of the provisions set forth above, to demand the removal of relevant content, and to initiate legal proceedings. Records of such violations shall be incorporated into the criteria for assessing participant eligibility.
- Irrespective of the form or extent of a participant's engagement, upon participation in any event convened by the UN or by the Organization, no participant shall subsequently hold themselves out — whether explicitly or by implication — or employ such designations as "UN-certified consultant," "UN-certified expert," "UN-designated adviser," or any other title, appellation, or designation liable to engender in the public mind the impression that the participant has obtained official certification, appointment, or representative status from the UN or any relevant international organization. The foregoing restriction shall not be lifted by reason of a participant's actual attendance, delivery of remarks, or completion of any form of participation.
Documentation Requirements for Compliance
- Any participant who intends to invoke their relationship with the UN or another international organization in any context associated with this event shall, prior to the commencement of the event, submit to the Organization in writing a formal authorization document duly signed by the relevant international organization, and may make such representations only upon receipt of written confirmation from the Organization. Participants who fail to submit the requisite documentation, or whose documentation has not been confirmed, shall not, in any form, make related statements or representations during the event, irrespective of whether the partnership relationship they claim is genuine.
B. Identity Integrity and Authorization Management
- Without prior written confirmation from the Organization, participants shall not represent themselves as speaking or taking positions on behalf of any organization, community, youth group, professional body, State, or any third party.
- Only the participant identities and roles officially announced by the Organization shall be accorded recognition at the physical venue and on online platforms; representative claims or authorization assertions made unilaterally by individuals shall not be recognized.
- Participants shall not, in any form, exaggerate, fabricate, imply, or misrepresent the scope of their authorization, their professional titles, designations, partnership relationships, or representative standing.
- All opportunities for participants to deliver remarks, pose questions, and provide responses are accorded by the Organization as limited authorizations pursuant to the arrangements of the agenda, and shall not constitute an inherent right of participants.
- The Organization may decline, curtail, redirect to written submission, or immediately terminate the remarks or questions of any participant on grounds of thematic relevance, time management, maintenance of order, security considerations, or the overall agenda arrangements, without prior explanation.
- Participants shall not, on the grounds of having completed registration, having paid fees, having traveled long distances to attend, their personal background or identity, or emotional considerations, demand to be accorded speaking opportunities or to have established rules altered.
- Where a person delivers remarks under an incorrect or unauthorized identity, the moderator may immediately discontinue that person's remarks without prior notice.
C. Thematic Scope, Political and Religious Neutrality, and Session Standards
- The content of participants' remarks, questions, and discussions shall directly and explicitly correspond to the announced thematic scope and objectives of the relevant session.
- The moderator may immediately discontinue any remarks that deviate from the designated theme, involve repetition, exploit the occasion for extraneous purposes, or convert a question into a personal statement.
- Requests by participants to change the topic, add items to the agenda at short notice, extend allotted time, or alter the order of speaking shall not be entertained.
- Religious positions, political advocacy, and any content not pertaining to the announced theme of the relevant session shall not be expressed, promoted, implied, or presented in any disguised form during the event.
- Participants shall not introduce ideological frameworks, positions of faith, political advocacy, political mobilization, or electoral language into any session discussion.
- The Organization shall retain sole authority to determine whether specific content falls within the thematic scope of a given session; such determinations shall not be contested or appealed by participants on the occasion.
D. Dress, Identification Insignia, and Visual Presentation Standards (Zero Tolerance)
- Participants are prohibited from carrying, wearing, or displaying, in any setting associated with the event, any insignia, uniforms, slogans, flags, or promotional materials of a religious, political, or advocacy nature.
- The foregoing restrictions shall extend to attire, accessories, hand-held items, name badges, display screens of mobile phones and tablet devices, online video backgrounds, stickers, and any other form of visual presentation.
- The Organization may require participants to immediately remove, conceal, put away, or replace the aforementioned items; participants who decline to comply may be required to vacate the venue immediately.
E. Information Quality: Prohibition of Pseudo-Professional Assertions and Misinformation
- Participants are prohibited from promoting or publicizing, in the course of the event, any therapeutic approach, technological claim, energy theory, instrument efficacy assertion, mind-body-spirit statement, or conspiracy theory content that lacks a basis in scientific consensus or professional validation.
- Statements such as "many people have had the same experience," "there are international cases," or "personal firsthand testimony" shall not constitute professional evidence and may not be adduced as substantiation or endorsement.
- Participants shall, in their remarks, clearly distinguish between verified facts and personal opinions; the dissemination of unverified, misleading, or manifestly false information during the event is prohibited.
- The Organization may determine that specific assertions fail to meet professional standards, discontinue the relevant remarks, and, where necessary, require the participant to publicly correct or retract such assertions.
F. Time Management and Procedural Standards
- The time allotted for each participant's remarks and questions shall be as announced by the moderator on the occasion.
- Participants who exceed the allotted time shall be discontinued immediately; requests for extension in any form, supplementary statements, additional questions, or "final remarks" shall not be entertained.
- Participants shall not interrupt the remarks of others, interject into dialogue, seize speaking equipment, interfere with recording, or demand that a speaker re-explain a matter in a particular manner.
- Challenging, negotiating over, or otherwise disrupting the proceedings in any manner with respect to time allocation, speaking order, or procedural arrangements shall constitute a violation of the present Code.
G. Standards for the Quality of Questions
- Prior to posing a question, participants are responsible for having adequately familiarized themselves with the speaker's background, role, and professional domain, so as to avoid posing questions that manifestly exceed the speaker's area of expertise.
- The content of questions shall be directly relevant to the theme of the relevant session; participants shall not use the occasion of posing a question to express personal viewpoints, promote their own positions, advocate for a particular cause, or exert pressure upon a speaker.
- Where a question is excessively lengthy, substantively unclear, employs incorrect terminology in a manner that renders it incomprehensible to the speaker, or itself presupposes an accusatory premise, the moderator may request that the question be reformulated or terminate it immediately.
H. Respect, Equality, and Zero-Harassment Policy (Zero Tolerance)
- Participants shall not subject any person to personal attacks, public humiliation, verbal disparagement, insinuation, or characterization based on group attributes, including, but not limited to, nationality, ethnicity, gender, religious belief, political opinion, or linguistic ability.
- The Organization maintains an absolute zero-tolerance position with respect to any form of sexual harassment, verbal harassment, physical boundary violations, coercive staring, stalking, encirclement, or any interaction that occasions physical or psychological discomfort to another person.
- The foregoing conduct shall not be defended on grounds of joking intent, cultural difference, the influence of alcohol, or being "without malicious intent."
- Upon a determination by the Organization that harassment or a boundary violation has occurred, it may immediately require the individual concerned to vacate the event and place that individual on the Organization's exclusion list for future events.
I. Venue Safety and Maintenance of Order
- Participants shall comply with all instructions of the Organization's staff and security personnel without delay; non-compliance or requests for exemptions shall not be entertained.
- Pushing, obstructing passageways, creating crowding pressure, occupying another person's seat, obstructing the movement of speakers, or encircling persons for the purposes of photography are prohibited.
- The Organization may require any person to vacate a specific area or the entire event venue on grounds of safety or the maintenance of order, without further explanation.
J. Standards Governing Participant Commercial Conduct and Prohibition on Using Public Interest Causes as Cover
Participant status shall not serve as a platform for commercial promotion of any kind, whether disguised as public-interest collaboration or otherwise. The following standards apply to all related conduct during and after the event:
- Participants are prohibited from using their participant status to promote their services, products, courses, platforms, investment projects, recruitment programmes, or any form of commercial partnership — including informal presentations framed as a "casual introduction."
- Any false, misleading, or exaggerated promotional conduct is prohibited, including implying endorsement by the Organization, fabricating cooperative relationships, or distorting the content of the event or the intended meaning of speakers.
- Soliciting attendees, distributing business cards, inviting persons to join groups, recruiting through private messaging, distributing promotional materials, or arranging informal private meetings during the event are prohibited.
- Participants shall not, in their questions, remarks, or any public forum, invoke sustainable development, ESG, social impact, or public interest frameworks as a guise to substantively promote their own or their institution's commercial interests — including commercial solicitation conducted under the name of "public interest collaboration" or "corporate social responsibility partnership."
- The Organization may require the immediate cessation of the foregoing conduct and the removal of related content, and reserves the right to take further measures against the participant concerned. Where such conduct is determined to constitute a misleading assertion, the Organization may immediately discontinue the relevant remarks and require correction; in cases of particular gravity, the enforcement provisions of Section Q shall apply.
K. Standards Governing Audio-Visual Recording, Screenshots, Dissemination of Content, and Use of Artificial Intelligence
- Without the explicit consent of the Organization and all relevant parties, recording, filming, covert photography, screenshots, side-recording, or live-streaming by any device or means is prohibited.
- Non-public private conversations, backstage interactions, undisclosed footage, or unauthorized materials shall not be externally disseminated, cited, or alluded to in any form.
- Without the consent of the parties concerned, participants shall not independently translate, rewrite, summarize, or reinterpret the remarks of others delivered during the event, nor publish such material through any channel.
- Inputting any content from an event into a third-party platform or artificial intelligence system for the purposes of transcription, summarization, analysis, model training, or any form of regenerative output is prohibited.
- Persons who violate the foregoing provisions shall delete all related content without delay; the Organization reserves the right to pursue civil and criminal liability in accordance with the law.
L. Personal Data Protection and Standards Governing the Use of Participant Lists
- Participants shall not, in any form, collect, transfer, sell, or apply the lists, contact information, or personal data of other participants to any purpose extraneous to this event.
- Systematic collection of participant lists under the pretext of "facilitating networking," "post-event follow-up," or "inviting persons to join a community" is prohibited.
- Persons who violate personal data protection standards may have their eligibility to participate in any future activities of the Organization permanently revoked.
M. Prohibition on the Offer of Improper Benefits and the Exertion of Relational Pressure
- Providing gifts, gratuities, kickbacks, or any form of material benefit to speakers, moderators, or any staff member of the Organization is prohibited.
- Attempting, through invitations to meals, promises of resource exchange, or offers of cooperative arrangements, to influence the Organization's speaking arrangements or any governance decision is prohibited.
- The foregoing conduct shall be deemed an improper attempt to compromise the governance independence of the Organization, and all enforcement provisions of the present Code shall apply accordingly.
N. Post-Event Contact Boundaries
- Following the conclusion of an event, participants shall not persistently contact, exert pressure upon, or lobby speakers, moderators, staff of the Organization, or other participants by private message, telephone, or any other means.
- Requesting that speakers or the Organization provide informal assistance on the grounds of "a private opportunity," "facilitating an introduction," or "gaining access to a particular platform or network" is prohibited.
- The Organization may place a written record of any inappropriate post-event contact on file and rely upon such records as a basis for assessing the individual's eligibility for future participation.
O. Alcohol, Substances, and Behavioral Self-Discipline
- All provisions of the present Code shall apply equally during meals, social gatherings, and post-event activities, and shall not be exempted by reason of the nature of the occasion.
- Inappropriate conduct occasioned by the consumption of alcohol, the influence of substances, or a loss of emotional control shall not constitute a ground for the mitigation or exemption of responsibility.
P. Emergency Management and Ad Hoc Adjustments
- In the event of an unforeseen occurrence, technical failure, or security concern, the Organization may immediately adjust the agenda, alter the format of the event, or suspend all activities, without prior notice to or the consent of participants.
- Participants shall not, in response to ad hoc decisions taken by the Organization, initiate public protests, exert pressure, seek to influence public opinion, or disseminate unverified speculative statements.
Q. Determination of Grey Areas, Anti-Regulatory Arbitrage, and Enforcement of Violations
- Where conduct not explicitly enumerated in the present Code is in question, the determination of whether such conduct constitutes a violation shall rest with the Organization, having regard to the purpose of the event, the impact on the occasion, and the overall context.
- A restrained response, courteous handling, or failure by the Organization to take action without delay shall not be construed as acquiescence in, or waiver of the right to pursue, any violation.
- Conduct that persistently tests the boundaries of the present Code shall be deemed willful non-compliance, and the Organization may apply more stringent enforcement measures accordingly.
- Assertions such as "the present Code does not explicitly prohibit this," "I was not aware," or "no one informed me in advance" shall not constitute valid grounds for exemption from or mitigation of responsibility.
- In respect of participants who violate the present Code, the Organization may, without prior warning to or negotiation with the individual concerned, immediately take one or more of the following enforcement measures:
- Discontinue their remarks or questions forthwith;
- Require the removal of insignia or promotional materials, or the cessation of recording or promotional activities;
- Restrict their subsequent participation rights, including revocation of the right to pose questions, revocation of admission, and cancellation of relevant certificates or records;
- Require that they vacate the physical venue or remove them from the online meeting room;
- Place them on the exclusion list for future activities of the Organization;
- Require the deletion of related content, public correction, and/or initiate legal proceedings.
- The Organization bears no obligation to provide compensation, alternative arrangements, further explanation, or on-site appeals mechanisms in respect of enforcement measures taken pursuant to the present Code.
R. Restrictions on the Application of Participant Status
- Participants shall not extend the status, visibility, or connections derived from their participation in this event to other events, organizations, or international platforms as a basis for claims of representativeness or endorsement.
- Implying in any form that one serves as a "permanent representative," "long-term partner," "officially designated member," or any role carrying ongoing authorization from the Organization is prohibited.
S. Reputation Protection and Prohibition on Selective Misrepresentation
- Participants shall not, in any form, injure the reputation of the Organization, its partner entities, speakers, or other participants.
- The public or private dissemination of insinuating, one-sided, or tendentious remarks or commentary is prohibited.
- Decontextualizing, selectively splicing, or selectively presenting event content for the purpose of generating controversy or obtaining improper exposure is prohibited.
T. Obligation to Speak Up and Escalation Procedure
- All participants share responsibility for the integrity of the Organization's events. Where a participant becomes aware of, or reasonably suspects, conduct that violates this Code — including but not limited to harassment, misrepresentation, unauthorized use of UN or IGO names, or improper commercial or financial conduct — the participant is expected to raise the matter promptly through the escalation channel below, rather than remaining silent or addressing it informally.
- Concerns or reports of suspected misconduct shall be submitted in writing to the Organization's designated compliance mailbox: acc@esgin.org. This is the sole official channel for escalating Code of Conduct concerns and shall constitute the Organization's point of receipt for such matters.
- Reports should, to the extent possible, include a description of the conduct in question, the date, time, and location (physical or online) of the event concerned, and the identity of any individuals involved, to enable the Organization to assess and respond appropriately.
- The Organization will treat reports made in good faith as confidentially as circumstances and applicable law permit, and will not tolerate retaliation against a participant for raising a concern in good faith under this section.
- Raising a concern under this section does not, of itself, guarantee a particular outcome or response; determinations remain subject to Sections Q and elsewhere in this Code.
U. Protection of the Reputation of the Convening Authority and Prohibition on Disparagement
- Participants shall not, in any form, defame, disparage, insinuate against, mislead others in relation to, or otherwise injure the reputation, professional credibility, or international standing of the Organization.
- The foregoing prohibition shall include, but not be limited to:
- Publicly or privately disseminating false, one-sided, misleading, or unverified statements;
- Decontextualizing, distorting, or maliciously misinterpreting the Organization's decisions, processes, provisions of the present Code, or the conduct of its staff;
- Seeking to shape public opinion, engaging in defamation, insinuating against the Organization, or inciting distrust of the Organization through social media, messaging groups, or public or non-public forums;
- Employing expressions such as "exposing the truth," "alerting the public," "merely relaying information," or "sharing personal feelings" as a device to evade responsibility.
- The foregoing conduct shall remain subject to the present Code regardless of whether it occurs after the conclusion of an event.
- The Organization is entitled, in the exercise of its professional judgment, to determine independently whether any conduct constitutes reputational harm or an undue adverse impact on the credibility of the Organization; such determination shall not be contingent upon a judicial ruling or the finding of any third-party body.
- Persons who violate the present section may be subject to the Organization taking, immediately or thereafter, one or more of the following measures:
- Revocation of their participant status, relevant certificates, records of recommendation, or any rights or interests associated with this event;
- Placement on a permanent exclusion list applicable to the Organization's future events, activities, programmes, and platforms;
- Requirement of the immediate deletion of related content, and, where circumstances so warrant, of public clarification or correction;
- Issuance by the Organization of independent statements to set the record straight, with a view to protecting its reputation and international standing;
- Reservation of all legal rights, including, but not limited to, civil claims for damages, criminal complaints, and other related legal actions.
- Participants shall not invoke freedom of expression, the expression of personal opinion, emotional release, relay through a third party, or a non-public forum as grounds for claiming exemption from or mitigation of the responsibilities incumbent upon them under the present section.
V. Standards Governing Formal Communications with the Organization (Final Provisions)
- All communications, confirmations, applications, document submissions, requests for amendment, or explanatory correspondence in connection with the Organization shall be conducted exclusively through the Organization's designated electronic mail address, which shall constitute the sole channel of formal communication having legal effect.
- Any mode of communication other than electronic mail shall be without formal legal effect, including, but not limited to:
- Instant messaging applications (such as LINE, WhatsApp, WeChat, Telegram, and analogous platforms);
- Private messaging functions on social media platforms (such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and analogous platforms);
- Short message service (SMS), voice messages, and telephone calls;
- Oral notification on the occasion, relay through a third party, or transmission by proxy.
- Any matter not formally raised by electronic mail, or in respect of which a formal written reply by electronic mail from the Organization has not been received, shall be deemed not to have been raised, not to have been agreed to, and not to have been formally established.
- Correspondence through the personal communication accounts, social media accounts, or instant messaging applications of staff members of the Organization shall not constitute the official position, commitment, agreement, or legal obligation of the Organization in any form.
- Participants shall bear the responsibility of independently verifying that their electronic mail has been duly transmitted and that a formal written reply by electronic mail from the Organization has been received; failure to receive a formal written reply shall not be construed as implied consent on the part of the Organization.
- The Organization bears no obligation to reply to, explain, or confirm all incoming correspondence; failure to reply shall not constitute consent, commitment, or responsibility of any kind.
- Any misunderstanding, delay, loss, or dispute arising from failure to communicate formally by electronic mail in accordance with the present provisions, or from reliance upon informal channels of communication, shall be borne solely by the participant concerned and shall not engage the responsibility of the Organization.
